Simple Pak Choi Recipes
Pak choi is perfect for boiling, steaming, stir-fry, used in soup, dumpling, bun, and mixed with rice. Above cooking methods are perfect for all types of pak choi including canton pak choi, shanghai pak choi and rosette pak choi.
Preparation
Take the quantity you would need. You would need about 500g as a dish for a 4-people meal. Wash the pak choi under running tap water and soak it in water for about 10 minutes to make sure there is no soil or dirt trapped in between branches. Suggest to cook the pak choi in whole so that less nutrients will be lost during cooking.
Boiled Pak Choi
Instruction: Make a pot of water boiling, then add the pak choi and cook for 1-2 minutes. Strain the pak choi out of the boiling water. Add salt to taste (you can also skip it), serve.
Steamed Pak Choi
Instruction: Steam the pak choi for 3 minutes or just wilted. Try not to steam it for too long to avoid overcook. You can add some sliced red chilli as garnish, drizzle with virgin olive oil to improve the nutritional value, add chilli sauce to add flavor, or add salt to taste.
Stir-fry Pak Choi
Instruction: Heat frying pan over medium-high heat, add oil and then chopped garlic, saute garlic until it turns golden. Add pak choi, you can add also soy sauce or salt as seasoning. Cook until the pak choi stems are tender, serve. You can add the pak choi while you are stir-frying with other ingredients like pork, shrimp, chicken, or veggie stir-fry to have dish with mixed ingredients.
Pak Choi in Soup
Instruction: You can add pak choi into tofu soup, chicken broth, miso soup or noodle soup as one of the ingredient.
Pak Choi in Dumpling or bun
Instruction: You can use chop rare pak choi to mix with shrimp or pork to make dumpling or steamed bun, or you can also blend chopped pak choi to make a pak choi juice, and then add the juice into dumpling or bun dough to give a green colored healthy dumpling or bun.
Pak Choi in rice
Instruction: Dice the pak choi, fry it over medium-high heat with oil until tender, mixed it with cooked rice. You can also cook the pak choi with rice cooker. After your rice is cooked, mix raw diced pak choi well with the cooked rice, close the rice cooker lid and switch the cooker on again. Let it be in the rice cooker for 10 more minutes even after it is done.
