What makes summer planting so hard?

Every year, when summer rolls around adults and children alike roll up their sleeves and bring out the old spade from the shed, ready to plant some new produce and flowers. And while planting may go smoothly in the beginning, plants may encounter lots of problems that only strike during the summer months, rendering your plants sick or infested.

First and foremost, one of the most common diseases that occurs is powdery mildew. Although the name of this condition may seem innocent enough, this fungal disease can slow the growth of your tomato plant or even kill it if the infection is serious. Powdery mildew occurs in warm, dry conditions when different strains of the disease are most likely to survive through new spores continually forming. This disease is spread via wind-carried spores and thus is likely to spread to the entirety of your plant if it is planted outside in your garden. To identify this disease, simply check your plant for flour like spots that give the plant an ‘icy’ appearance. Mildew usually starts off as small, white, circular spots on a plant which can be found on leaves, stems, and even fruit and progresses onto larger spots, eventually affecting the look of the plant as well. This fungus can cause plant foliage to yellow, curl or even turn brown. It can also do damage to your beautiful flower garden that has been the subject of many compliments, causing the plant to experience early bud drop or a reduced flower quality. However, with the use of our aspara machine, you can be sure that powdery mildew will never occur on your luscious plants. As the disease is spread by wind, it is highly unlikely that these spores will travel all the way to your plants when they are quietly tucked all the way in the back of a room. aspara keeps your plants safe and cozy indoors, away from pests and any diseases they could develop!

Moreover, to allow a colorful and fresh salad bowl yearwide, you may want to plant lettuce like romaine and butterhead lettuce even in the summer. Since these types of lettuce grow at around 40-80 degrees F, they could be roasted by the scorching summer heat, resulting in sub par salads. Aside from lettuces, many flowers are also sensitive to temperature and climate changes as they are not as hardy, meaning if you still want poppies in summer this will not be possible without the use of an aspara machine. With our machine, anybody can plant any of the plants we sell in our seed kits regardless of whether it is snowing or sunny outside. This means that those residing in Australia can grow summer crops in winter and vice versa in other areas of the world. With aspara, ‘seasonality’ does not affect the growth of your plants and you can be assured that you will always be able to grow your favorite flowers be it spring or fall.
